Chicago, Communication and Culture Program

July 11 - July 28, 2016

Join our special summer language and culture program for a fun and exciting ESL learning experience in the beautiful city of Chicago!

Chicago, Communication, and Culture is a 3-week English language program designed for tourists and visitors to Chicago who want to explore the city while they improve their English. Students meet on the UIC campus for an hour of classroom language instruction, then leave the campus for instructor-guided language practice in the city.

The instructor-guided Chicago tours include
  • A boat tour along the Chicago River
  • The Taste of Chicago music and food festival
  • Museums and art gallery visits
  • A visit to one of Chicago's famous skyscrapers
  • A visit to either the Cubs or the White Sox baseball stadium
Summer 2016 Program Schedule: July 11 - July 28
Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Classroom instruction: 1333 S. Halsted, suite 260 (9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.)
Chicago tours: Various locations in Chicago (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)

$1,050, includes all course materials and city tour fees

The registration deadline for 2016 is June 13. Late registration is possible if there is space. We limit class size, so please register early.

Campus housing in a University of Illinois furnished residence hall (Thomas Beckham Hall) is available for an additonal payment of $985. The housing payment deadline is June 13, 2016.

Homestay Options
Homestay is an opportunity to live in a home with an American family. Several private companies offer homestays in the Chicago area:

Please note that we do not arrange homestays. You need to contact the company directly yourself to make any arrangements.

Important Notes
Students must be at least 19 years old. This program is designed for students with a basic knowledge of English who are interested in building on their skills (high beginner to high intermediate level speakers of English).

This program only meets for 14 hours per week. It is not full-time and does not qualify students for the I-20.

This program is open to students who:
  • are visitors to the US and hold a B-1 or B-2 (tourist) visa,
  • or have entered the United States on a visa waiver,
  • or have an F-1 visa and want to practice English over summer break,
  • or are US citizens or residents.
